Clare McCaldin - Jessie Matthews and Elisabeth Schumann evening

Clare McCaldin has devised a new entertainment, after the chance discovery that two very different twentieth-century singing stars, Jessie Matthews and Elisabeth Schumann, are buried in the same West London churchyard.  Clare says that her desire to know how each of them had ended up there uncovered some wonderful anecdotes as well as the discovery of Schumannís grand-daughter living in London.

The result is Over My Shoulder, an entertainment along the lines of Clare's earlier success Haydnís London Ladies. With panist Paul Turner she performs some of the music most closely associated with Jessie and Elisabeth, and describes their achievements, scandals, tragedies, falls from grace and triumphant come-backs.

The first performance of Over My Shoulder takes place in the church where the two singers are buried - St Martinís Ruislip - on 16th September at 7.30pm.
